Dr Alex Gavino is a Senior Learning Facilitator in Public Health (Digital Health) and a member of the Centre for Healthy Futures (CHeF) at Torrens University Australia. He has over 15 years of experience in healthcare research and implementation through the various roles he held locally and overseas. Prior to his role at Torrens, Alex was the Clinical Research Manager at Australian Medical Research, where he implemented clinical trials for chronic pain management. He was a former Research Scientist at the Singapore Management University iCity Lab, where he co-developed a smart home concept that supports ageing-in-place for elderly residents. Through the University of the Philippines Manila - National Telehealth Centre, he coordinated various digital health programs, including the Telehealth Services for Rural Doctors, Community Health Information Tracking System (CHITS), and the RxBox - a biomedical telemedicine device that aims to provide better access to health services in geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) in the Philippines. Alex did further training in medical informatics as Fellow at the US National Library of Medicine. For his PhD thesis, Alex conducted a community screening for atrial fibrillation and other chronic conditions using novel digital health devices, which paved the way for the Big Ararat Health Study data and biobank. The data has been used by higher degree research students at CHeF.
