Research Profile

Dr Barbara Bok is an educator, researcher and professional futurist with a broad and multi-disciplinary background obtained in academic and industrial settings. Barbara contributes to areas where she can help in participatory efforts to catalyse transformation that reduce unjust, unsustainable and other undesired effects on all living beings of oppression and repression. This means she tends to be involved in a broad range of topics and projects rather than being a specialist in a narrow field. Indicated, for example, by her current research involvement into professional ethics in the residential construction sector at Torrens University and recently being a co-author in cardiometabolic health in the built environment and alternative futures in the Anthropocene at Swinburne University. Barbara combines her multi- and trans-disciplinary knowledge and experience as an academic researcher, postgraduate educator and masters’ qualified professional futurist with her experience and knowledge obtained in industrial settings. For her PhD, she meshed methodologies and paradigms from the fields of Futures Studies (FS) and Science and Technology Studies (STS) with the insights into practice she gained from working in STEM-related positions in manufacturing, minerals refining, and information systems development industries.
