Botanical observation as conservation
Marni Stuart’s research investigates the role that depicting native plants plays in environmental conservation. Her publications focus on the methods of observation and walking in design ideation, and botanical depiction in design.
She is a university lecturer at Torrens University, specialising in online delivery and student transitions to higher education. Through her teaching, she aims to develop her students’ abilities to explore their own values, as a method to harness their creativity.
Marni Stuart creates surface patterns for fabrics that celebrate the native habitats of the Sunshine Coast. She uses drawing and other mark-making techniques to create her designs. Always starting with the hand, the work is textured and organic. The works are inspired by walks through the wallum coastal heathland and wildflowers found there.
