Research activity per year
Dr Mingzi Zhang has over a decade of experience in biomedical engineering research, with specialised expertise in image-based cardiovascular simulations and their applications to clinical diagnostics and treatment planning. He holds joint affiliations with the University of New South Wales and Macquarie University, where he leads collaborative research on predicting the risk of heart attack and aneurysm rupture, as well as advancing simulation-based personalisation of endovascular therapies. His work integrates state-of-the-art computational modelling and artificial intelligence techniques. As an ECR, Dr Zhang has published over 40 peer-reviewed research articles, and his contributions have gained wide recognition in the field. He actively serves the research community as a reviewer for multiple leading academic journals and was the youngest session organiser at the International Conference on Fluid Dynamics (ICFD).
Image-based cardiovascular and cerebrovascular simulations

– Applying computational modelling to optimise stent design and guide clinical interventions.
Risk prediction through anatomy–haemodynamics analysis and AI
– Combining vascular geometry, flow dynamics, and artificial intelligence to predict heart attack and aneurysm rupture risks.
