Research Profile

Dr Ranju Mandal is a lecturer in Cybersecurity at Torrens University Australia and is a member of the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Optimisation.

He has more than six years of post-doctoral research experience in Artificial Intelligence and Big Data Analytics. His current research is primarily focused on optimising deep learning models and the application of Transformer-based deep network models. He is particularly interested in utilising AI for image and video analysis in multidisciplinary research.

Prior to his current role, he served as a postdoctoral research fellow at Griffith University's Big Data Analytics lab, the University of Technology Sydney, and CQUniversity. He has an impressive track record of publishing more than 40 research papers in reputable international journals and conferences.

In 2021, he collaborated on a CRC Blue Economy project in partnership with two industry leaders, Tasmanian salmon farms Huon Aquaculture and Tassal Group. The project's goal was to design a prototype for monitoring fish, plankton, and jellyfish species, including moon jellyfish and slaps, in challenging marine environments, ultimately benefiting the Tasmanian salmon industry.

From 2020 to 2022, he worked on an ARC discovery project at Central Queensland University and contributed to the development of a context-adaptive deep-learning architecture for scene parsing. He is the recipient of the AI for Decision Making Initiative grant (AI4DM 2021) by the Office of National Intelligence (ONI) and the Defence Science and Technology Group (DSTG).
