Dr. Sharmin is a dedicated researcher and lecturer with appropriate experience, training, and commitment in the field of clinical epidemiology and biostatistics. She has several years of experience working in the field of public health. Professionally, she is a researcher and lecturer in public health and completed her PhD in Clinical Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the University of Newcastle. She worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Melbourne, Centre for Youth Mental Health. She has diverse experience working in the different areas of public health, including adolescent health, epidemiology of substance use and youth mental health, maternal health service delivery model, clinical interventions at reducing complex trauma symptoms in children, health service utilization among substance users with mental illness, clinical and psychosocial factors associated with substance use in help-seeking young people, and family violence therapeutic program. 

She has a strong interest in the epidemiology of substance use and youth mental health, interventions at reducing complex trauma symptoms in children, the pattern of health service utilization among substance users with mental illness, clinical and psychosocial factors associated with substance use in help-seeking young people, translation of research into prevention and early intervention, and the post-COVID trauma facing the Australian youth.

Dr Sharmin also has a strong teaching interest in Public Health including Epidemiology, Mental health and Substance use, Research Methods, Social, Behavioural and Cultural determinants in Public Health, and Foundations of Public Health.
