N2 - Despite being the fifth largest garment exporter in the world, Vietnam's garment industry is struggling to improve its competitive advantage in the global garment industry. Using a sequential mixed method, this study aims to explore the extraordinary characteristics impacting on the sustainable development of Vietnam 'garment industry. Specifically, this study was conducted through the two-phase process including qualitative research with in-depth interviews followed by a survey. Participants were key informants occupying different segments of the garment industry including educators and employers. Three themes emerging from this study reveal different perspectives of Vietnam's garment industry. They contribute developing a holistic picture of what is happening in Vietnam's garment industry.
