Abstract
The pods of Theobroma cacao, the cacao tree, are the source material for that famous and much desired substance known as chocolate. Legends and myths, both ancient and modern, surround Theobroma and its many preparation forms, which are consumed in massive quantities all over the world. Yet few realise the inherent depth of this wondrous medicine, and what actually defines the highest quality, and most medicinal chocolate.
This presentation will focus on the historical and scientific basis for the use of Theobroma as a medicine, and develop the argument that “medicinal grade” chocolate can play a role in the treatment regimes of herbalists everywhere.
