Abstract

Recent currency crises in many Southeast Asian nations (e.g., Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia), perceptions of social or political instability (e.g., Myanmar, Cambodia), ideological differences (e.g., Vietnam, People's Republic of China), and even smog levels (e.g., forest fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan in 1997) inevitably have repercussions for regional tourism industries.
