Abstract
Australia’s population is aging rapidly and the housing environments in which older adults age need to adapt to ensure their complex needs are met. Social isolation for this age group is of concern and intergenerational engagement is emerging as a way to address this issue. This study utilizes a photovoice method to highlight the meanings that older adults and children give to the spaces within a purpose-built intergenerational housing environment in South Australia. The findings suggest that the spaces created within this environment facilitate positive ongoing relationships, meaningful intergenerational engagement, and a sustainable community with which to live and learn.
