Abstract

This chapter presents a history of mixed methods in business research, taking into account the great diversity of this research area. The chapter examines the pioneer studies followed by an analysis of more recent works about mixed methods in the field published after 2004, identifying prevalence studies carried out in several business disciplines over the last decade. Next, this work describes the added value of mixed methods to business research. Furthermore, a range of mixed methods exemplars from within business studies and across several subfields that have employed mixed methods designs is provided. The chapter concludes with our view on the future of mixed methods in the business literature and recommendations for future research and research capacity building within business disciplines.
