The chapter outlines the governing bodies that guide camp delivery, the diversity of organised camping and offers a description of who make up summer camp staff. The chapter includes background to the author’s involvement in summer camps and summarises the research process undertaken for the study which informs the book. The chapter closes by giving a brief orientation to the chapters that follow.
