Abstract
Optical wireless communication using visible light has become a benchmark technology in order to improve the speed and robustness of the communication link in the future indoor wireless communication system. In spite of the large inherited bandwidth of the VLC system, limitation in practical hardware design significantly degrade the performance of existing VLC system. In order to improve the performance of VLC system, multiple input multiple output (MIMO) is a feasible option. However, contemporary MIMO-VLC system lacks from diversity and experiences performance variation through different optical optical channels. Diversity combining techniques are well known for the performance improvement by providing signal gain at the receiver side. In this paper we consider both selection combining (SC) and maximal ratio combining (MRC) for imaging MIMO based visible light communication system. We propose to merge the advantages of SC and MRC method in the form of spatial diversity combiner (SDC) in order to improve VLC receiver performance. Simulation results show significant performance improvement.
