Abstract

Internet-based technology applications within societies have increasingly improved the quality of everyday lives and have simplified and streamlined many activities. Although the Internet plays a hugely positive role in today’s digital economies’ and societies’ performance and productivity; however, on the other hand, it also makes societies vulnerable to digital attacks and uncertainties.
Overall, the ‘internet influenced’ daily life has left scientists, practitioners and politicians no choice other than to find solutions to support societies to live today’s new-normal life in a more thriving way with less cybersecurity issues and privacy protection concerns. This becomes even more important when the focus is on the healthcare sector.

A promising discovery and creative development that plays a vital role in providing promising solutions is ‘Blockchain Technology’. With its unique characteristics, blockchain is perceived as a technology that can provide a robust cybersecurity solution and a high level of privacy protection. Therefore, practitioners and decision-makers are interested to gain an in-depth understanding of how blockchain technology’s intriguing opportunities and solutions can strengthen cybersecurity and enhance privacy protection in healthcare industry.

• This chapter initially focuses on cybersecurity and privacy protection's current and future state.
• It further expands on the current and future state of the healthcare sector in today's pandemic disrupted society.

• Later it argues how using a vibrant new technology such as blockchain can support cybersecurity enhancement and privacy protection in the healthcare industry.
• In this line, this chapter provides a detailed analysis of blockchain technology's theoretical and practical opportunities to support the healthcare industry for today and future.
• And finally, this chapter concludes the discussion by mapping blockchain technology prospects and solutions for the healthcare sector's cybersecurity enhancement and privacy protection.
